AMEE 2015: Medical Education in the spotlight in Glasgow

Last week, thousands of medical educators, administrators, researchers and students converged on Glasgow for the annual meeting of AMEE, the Association of Medical Educators in Europe – five intense days for people at all stages of their careers to exchange ideas and learn about the latest advances in this field. As the premier medical education conference globally, many of our customers were there – it was great catching up with so many of you.

Presentations were diverse: Has the medical student changed? How do you set up a medical program in another country? How do you balance short times and teaching opportunities when it comes to surgery? How do you invent a model abscess? And alongside these, many examples of research into teaching methods such as flipped classrooms and the place of simulations in medical teaching.

Another highlight for us was the focus on the wellbeing of students with presentations on promoting resiliency, developing and sustaining passion for continuing education, and creative tools for reflection and personal growth. We know it’s not always easy as a young doctor or nurse – it’s important that our health professionals look after themselves too.

At the ADInstruments booth in the exhibition stall, Marcus and Stephen were kept busy with lots of Lt demos showing our new content and the patient case study library - to those who came to see it, thanks for all your positive comments! And if you missed seeing Lt, see it here. Nice to meet so many delegates from all over the world.

And of course, with so many software engineers at ADInstruments focused on creating a great platform for life science education, we can’t go past the Hackathon. While we think Lt holds some of the answers to how new technology can be used to advance medical education, it’s exciting to see so many people fascinated by the possibilities that technology can provide. It will be a whole new world for students and teachers!
