Address a range of nursing core competency requirements
By completing LabTutor for Nursing exercises your students will:
- Build their nursing careers on a strong and relevant bioscience knowledge base
- Experience and explore real clinical scenarios
- Learn to work as part of a cohesive interprofessional team
- Understand the respect and empathy required in patient care
- Gain technological aptitude and confidence using computers and e-Learning tools
NEW Applied Nursing Collection: Enhanced Nursing Content and Two New Exercises
The 15 practicals in LabTutor's Applied Nursing Collection build on previous LabTutor releases by incorporating more focused and relevant content than ever before. Developed in conjunction with educators and clinical professionals, the new collection offers:
- Two new topics - Pregnancy and Childbirth,
including video footage from a birth, interviews with women, their families and midwives, and high-quality anatomical animations.
- New Nurse video interviews -
Experienced nurses (including diabetes, cardiac and paediatric specialists) illuminate the role nurses play in patients' acute and ongoing care
- More interprofessional content - Case studies now include interviews with additional relevant healthcare professionals including physiotherapists, dieticians, podiatrists and occupational therapists.
- Pharmacology in context -
Where relevant, patients' drug therapies are listed, and their anticipated physiological effects explained.
- Patient follow-up interviews -
Several case studies now feature interviews with patients filmed months after the initial interviews, giving students an insight into long-term care strategies and allowing them to evaluate the initial treatment.

Economical and easy-to-use teaching system
Our Health Science Teaching System contains the equipment
students need to measure physiological signals when
completing LabTutor for Nursing exercises. The system is safe and easy-to-use, so students are able to get
started quickly and complete exercises independently.
The system includes:
|
| LabTutor Teaching Suite |
PowerLab 26T |
Transducers & Accessories |
LabTutor Teaching Suite includes permission to install LabTutor's student interface on all
networked departmental computers, as well as all current LabTutor for Nursing exercises, and access to
future exercises at no extra charge. |
At the core of the system is the PowerLab 26T acquisition unit.
The PowerLab records the extensive range of physiological
signals included in the exercises. The units connect easily to
classroom computers via a USB port. |
Each supplied transducer and accessory connects seamlessly to the PowerLab unit.
All transducers are "plug and play". Students start
LabTutor software, follow the onscreen instructions and start their
measurements. |

"I use LabTutor with nursing students to revisit and rework physiology lecture material in a new setting. It brings a tutorial aspect into the course and I have no doubt completing hands-on practical exercises improves students' understanding. In addition, taking physiological measurements from each other gives students some insight into what it may be like for a patient, in terms of being subjected to a whole variety of potential interventions. This method of learning is more interesting for students, and their feedback has always been very positive."
Dr. Therese Ruane-O'Hora,

"LabTutor increases
student motivation and
engages them, increasing
their desire to learn.
I have never had the
students ask for more
assignments before, but
several students wanted
a case study for each
type of disease process.
Previously, students
were prone to just
memorising facts and
were not interested
in understanding why.
With LabTutor, their
learning is at a deeper
level, something they will
remember years from
now, not just for the next
test."
