Winner of the LabTutor Nursing System
The LabTutor Nursing Systems was released July 2007 and to celebrate we ran a competition for nursing education institution. The prize – one lucky institution would win a package worth over £10, 000 – a classroom set of four LabTutor Nursing Systems complete with installation and training. LabTutor Nursing system is dedicated to teaching the basic physiological principles to nursing students. Educators reap the benefits of decreased set up time, reduced supervision, increased student throughput and automatic report submission.
ADInstruments was pleased to announce the University of East Anglia as the winners of four LabTutor Nursing Systems. Situated in the city of Norwich, the University of East Anglia School of Nursing and Midwifery have an intake of around 700 students per year. This September LabTutor will be integrated into their pre-registered course and be used by around 150 students, with further 100 starting in February next year. The pre-registration course trains students to become nurses and midwifes over 3 years at either a diploma or degree level. The University is also using it in their post-registration courses.

Winners of the LabTutor Nursing System
We could hardly believe our luck when we found out that our department had won the four Nursing LabTutor systems, the more we learn about the system the more delighted we are! This is a golden opportunity to widen our approach to teaching physiology within the school of Nursing & Midwifery. LabTutor is a very impressive kit and particularly user friendly. We feel it will complement our existing teaching strategies and help students understand how practical exercise affects body functions in a safe environment.
It has always been particularly difficult to support the teaching of physiology with practical exercises. The University can now offer students studying within the school of Nursing & Midwifery to engage in real laboratory experiments. As educators we are very excited as we will be able to include a fresh approach to teaching and assessing physiology. Students will be able to participate in experiments and access the data from them in their own time.
We are piloting this with students this summer, with full integration into pre registration nursing, midwifery and ODP programmes from September. We envisage using it with pre registration nurses, Operating Department Practitioners, paramedics & midwives and also specialist post registration modules too.
