The Metabolic system is ideal for use in teaching laboratories to demonstrate the metabolic effects of activities such as muscle contraction and exercise.
The ADInstruments Exercise Physiology System measures airflow and gas concentrations (O2 and CO2), allowing the rates of oxygen consumption and carbon dioxide production as well as expired minute ventilation to be recorded, analyzed and displayed online using LabChart.
The Exercise Physiology System has been configured with an 8 channel PowerLab, a bio amp, thermistor, spirometer, gas analyzer and gas mains chamber. The two general purpose inputs may be used to record other physiological signals such as peripheral pulse, blood flow or pressure, whilst the bioamplifier may be used to record ECG or EMG. The thermistor channel allows for temperature monitoring of sampled airway gas and the spirometer is used for calculation of respiratory airflow.
The Exercise Physiology System can be used for several laboratory experiments, including: - indirect calorimetry measurements
- respiratory flow and volume testing
- exercise physiology
- cardiorespiratory function
- anaerobic threshold assessment
The Metabolic Module (Win or Mac) is supplied with the Exercise Physiology System and simplifies the experimental setup, data acquisition and analysis for the student. The module allows fast and easy calibration of the O2 and CO2 analysers along with easy online and offline calculation of VE, VO2, VCO2 and respiratory exchange ratio (RER). Graphical windows plot and display data online as the students collect the data. |
