Oxygen Concentrations

PowerLab systems are suitable for use in teaching laboratories to record in vitro oxygen concentrations and pulse oximetry measurements in animals.

Students may use PowerLab data acquisition systems to record dissolved oxygen concentrations via electrochemical methods incorporating 'Clark' or galvanic oxygen electrodes. Whilst the 'Clark' electrodes are predominantly used for research, the Galvanic Oxygen Electrode is suitable as a low-cost alternative for student use. The Micro-oxygen Electrode is ideal for the determination of oxygen concentration in small volumes and connects to any PowerLab via the Analog Adapter. Third-party electrodes require analog outputs for connection to PowerLab.

The ADInstruments Gas Analyzer connects to any PowerLab and measures O2 concentration in the air. Blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) may also be monitored by PowerLab using pulse oximeters that have an analog output. Nonin supply pulse oximeters for use in small and large animals that are suitable for use with the Oximeter Pod.
