Simply and easily investigate breathing and pulmonary mechanics in students using our PowerLab data acquisition system and spirometry equipment.
PowerLab systems may be used to introduce undergraduate students to the control of breathing and pulmonary mechanics. To assist in the preparation of laboratory classes, simple experiments on breathing and respiratory air flow are available from the Experiments Section.
Respiratory rate and pulmonary mechanics are easily recorded using a Piezo Respiratory Belt Transducer, or by using a Nasal Temperature Probe and Thermistor Pod. For quantification of respiratory air flow, the Human Respiratory Kit is ideal for students to use. This kit consists of a Spirometer Pod combined with a 1000L Respiratory Flow Head and accessories.
To make it easy for instructors and students, respiratory parameters such as FVC, FEV, FEV1, PEF, PIF, and VT are calculated by the freely available Spirometry Extension for LabChart. This extension provides easy automation of flow and volume calibration and generates flow-volume plots and spirometry reports.
To complement studies of respiratory function, students may also use PowerLab data acquisition systems and the Gas Analyzer to measure oxygen and carbon dioxide concentrations. Similar systems may also be used to investigate Respiratory Function in Animals. |
