PowerLab systems can be used in education for the investigation of sensory and motor nerve responses in nerves and muscles.
PowerLab data acquisition systems can be used in undergraduate and advancedteaching laboratories to easily and effectively demonstrate sensory andmotor nerve responses in vitro. To assist with the preparationof these classes, a full complement of instructor notes and applicationnotes are available from the Experiments section. These resource materials cover topics such as - Recording neural activity in small nerves
- The frog gastrocnemius muscle
- The cockroach ventral nerve cord
- Spontaneous activity in crayfish muscle
- Membrane potentials in crayfish muscle
- Postsynaptic potentials in crayfish muscle
Comprehensive teaching experiments (Frog Compound Action Potential and Action Potential of Single Nerve Fibers in the Earthworm) are also available from the Experiments section. To investigate compound action potentials in the frog sciatic nerve, students will require the Nerve Chamber that connects to the PowerLab system via the differential Pod inputs or Bio Amps.
A complete package for conducting this experiment is supplied in the Nerve and Muscle Kit. In addition, LabChart software provides online control of the stimulators and includes arange of settings for stimulus waveform and intensity. |
