Sensory and Motor Nerve Responses in Humans

The PowerLab data acquisition system provides safe, isolated stimulation for investigating
sensory and motor nerve responses in human subjects.

The PowerLab system allows you to introduce students to several non-invasive methods for investigating nerve conduction in humans.

A series of teaching experiments are also available on the Experiments section that introduce students to electromyography (EMG), evoked EMG recordings, nerve stimulation and nerve conduction velocity. EMG recordings are easily obtained using surface electrodes, the Bio Amp and the PowerLab system.

The Stimulating Bar Electrode is suitable for mild electrical stimulation of nerves in humans and connects to the PowerLab using an isolated stimulator input that is safe for human connection. The stimulating bar electrode may also connect to the PowerLab via the Stimulus Isolator or Dual Bio Amp/Stimulator signal conditioners.

In addition, a simple investigation of the myotatic reflex ("knee-jerk" experiment) may be conducted using LabChart, the Tendon Hammer and Goniometer (Joint Angle Sensor).
