The revolutionary LabTutor software for PowerLab systems has been one of ADInstruments' most innovative developments for life science teaching. These case studies focus on two different institutions that have made LabTutor a core tool in their first year physiology practical programs.
Over the past twenty years, our customers have used PowerLab data acquisition systems to research how countless variables affect human physiology – including factors present in our bodies, lifestyle choices and the environment. Now, a group of Canadian researchers has moved onto the final frontier, and are using PowerLab to study how life in microgravity on the International Space Station affects astronaut cardiovascular and cerebrovascular physiology.

ADInstruments’ acclaimed software for life science laboratory teaching, LabTutor, has been enhanced by the release of LabAuthor. LabAuthor software gives educators easy-to-use tools for editing LabTutor physiology, pharmacology and biology experiments for PowerLab data acquisition systems. It also allows educators to create new LabTutor experiments to suit their classroom.

ADInstruments has released LabChart 6, a new generation of software for their PowerLab data acquisition systems. The release is part of the company’s 20th Anniversary celebrations, and is enhanced by the simultaneous release of the LabChart Reader application. LabChart Reader enables viewing and limited analysis of LabChart data files, and is available as a free download from the ADInstruments website.

ADInstruments has released Dose Response analysis software for use with PowerLab Chart data acquisition and analysis systems. The new module adds dose response specific analysis and display functions to Chart for Windows software. These functions enable researchers conducting dose response studies to progress from data acquisition to results in minutes.

ADInstruments has released LabTutor teaching experiments in Spanish, Portuguese, German and Japanese. LabTutor software incorporates real-time physiological and biological recording and analysis into a collection of easy-to-follow experiments. The experiments enable more students to benefit from using PowerLab data acquisition and analysis systems from the beginning of their life science education.

PowerLab systems are being used to establish the zebrafish as a model for assessing drug effects on cardiac function, using QT prolongation as a key indicator. Researchers at Phylonix Pharmaceuticals are recording ECG signals from the small fish species, and using Chart’s ECG Analysis Module software to analyze the effects of pharmacological interventions.
