World’s First and Only Mouse and Rat Pulse Oximeter

Record mouse and rat oxygen saturation non-invasively

We are pleased to offer our customers the MouseOx™ pulse oximetry system for mice and rats from Starr Life Sciences Inc. The MouseOX system is the only product on the market suitable for non-invasive pulse oximetry from mice and rats, providing a recording range of 90 to 900 BPM. The equipment can be used in cardiopulmonary research studies or as a monitoring device during animal surgery. The MouseOx system is suitable for use with Windows computers running Windows 98 or later.

Record these parameters with a single sensor clip:
  • Arterial oxygen saturation
  • Pulse rate
  • Breath rate
  • Pulse distention
  • Breath distention
  • Event marking

 Features and Benefits:
  • Record from awake and anesthetized rodents
  • Suitable for ranges of 90 to 900 BPM
  • Independently tested and validated
  • USB 2.0 connection
  • No calibration required
  • No external power supply

The MouseOx system consists of the MouseOx device, Starr-Link Analog Output Module and Starr-Gate Restraining Tubes.

    MLE1070 MouseOx Oximeter
The MLE1070 MouseOx Oximeter acquires a high-resolution pulse plethysmography signal from the rodent in real time and transfers the signal to a Windows computer.

    MLE1071 STARR-Link Analog
    Output Module
The MLE1071 STARR-Link Analog Output Module  provides seven analog outputs of the MouseOx pulmonary parameters directly to PowerLab data acquisition systems* (8 and 16 channel systems are recommended). It connects easily to your computer using a USB interface and to PowerLab using BNC cables.

    STARR-Gate Restraining Tubes
STARR-Gate Restraining Tubes are used to restrain awake or anesthetized animals during the recording.

    Cardiopulmonary Signal Specifications:

Oxygen Saturation (Pulse rates 90 to 900 beats per minute, BPM)

    • Measurement Range: 0% to 100% Arterial Blood Oxygen Saturation
    • Measurement Resolution: <1.5% across entire range
    • Measurement Response Time: Arterial Oxygen Saturation is reported to the user after each heartbeat. Every 0.72 seconds, the screen is refreshed to display all the oxygen saturation values measured since the previous screen refresh

      Pulse Rate

    • Measurement Range: Real-time cardiac pulse rates from 90 to 900 BPM
    • Measurement Response Time: Pulse rate is reporting to the user after each heartbeat. Every 0.72 seconds, the screen refreshed to display all of the pulse rates measured since the previous screen refresh.

    Breath Rate

    • Measurement Range: 25 to 450 breaths per minute
    • Measurement Response Time: Respiratory rate is reported to the user every 1.7 seconds. The value reported is the result of a moving average of the rate of breathing for the 10 previous breath rate measurements

    Pulse Distention

    • A measurement of the distention of the arterial blood vessels between the sensor pads. Provides a non-invasive indication of blood flow
    • Measurement Range: 0 to 800 micrometers
    • Measurement Resolution: <2.4% of measurement
    • Measurement Response Time: Pulse distention is reported to the user after each heartbeat. Every 0.72 sec, the screen is refreshed to display all of the pulse distention values measured since the previous screen refresh

    Breath Distention (Effort to Breathe)

    • Provides non-invasive indication of the effort a subject requires to generate breath
    • Measurement Range: 0 to 800 micrometers
    • Measurement Resolution: <2.4% of measurement
    • Measurement Response Time: Breath distention is reported to the user every 1.7 seconds. The value reported is the result of a moving average of the rate of breathing for the 10 previous breath rate measurements

Please Note:
  • *MouseOx is compatible with computers running Windows 98 or later.
  • Awake mice and rats need to be trained and accustomed to the technique in order to achieve quality recordings.
  • MouseOx will work with all coat colors of mice and rats, however, with dark coated rodents it is recommended that the clip area is shaved.
