Analyze Rat Cardiovascular Physiology with No Animals - Teaching Experiment in Focus

The Rat Cardiovascular Physiology Analysis experiment in LabChart Experiments Collection allows the analysis of cardiovascular manipulations in rats without the need for any animals. For this experiment, cardiovascular parameters from male Sprague Dawley rats were recorded using PowerLab data acquisition system and Chart software.

Pre-recorded data files eliminate the need to perform complex experimental procedures with rats and saves valuable laboratory class time and cost. Students are able to analyze data, draw conclusions and gain understanding of the neural control of cardiovascular functions.

The Rat Cardiovascular Physiology experiment comes complete with six data files, instructor’s reference, student protocol and laboratory report. The Rat Cardiovascular Analysis experiment for Windows and Macintosh is compatible with Chart and LabChart software.

Data files available in the Rat Cardiovascular Physiology Analysis experiment include:
  • Arterial baroreceptor reflexes
  • Cardiovascular response to air jet stress
  • Cardiovascular response to exercise
  • Cardiovascular response to cigarette smoke
  • Cardiovascular response to hemorrhage
  • Cardiovascular response to ganglionic blockade with chlorasondamine
Measurable rat cardiovascular parameters include:
  • Mean Arterial Pressure
  • Heart Rate
  • Lumbar Sympathetic Nerve Activity

Note: ADInstruments would like to thank Dr. Julia A. Moffitt, Department of Physiology and Pharmacology, Des Moines University, Iowa, USA for providing data files and protocols for this experiment.
