LabChart 7.3 for Windows introduces several great new features to enhance the way you generate, log and analyze your data.

The new version of LabChart features a re-engineered Data Pad that provides a rapid response, high-capacity data logging system with more functionality and power than its predecessor. The new Data Pad features parallel processing, full Unicode support and no row restriction, and more. Scope View now allows the removal of unwanted, periodic background signals, you can stack and overlay PSD plots in Spectrum View, search for recent files in the Welcome Centre and stream your existing files into LabChart in real time with the new Playback File extension. LabChart 7.3 is a free software upgrade for LabChart 7, Chart Pro and LabChart Pro users.

High speed, unrestricted Data Pad

The all new Data Pad is powered by the new ADInstruments Spreadsheet Engine to provide a rapid-response data logging system to meet the demand for large experimental throughput in real time or post acquisition.

New features include:

  • Parallel processing for faster calculations and interface response (multi-reading and multi-core support)
  • Unlimited rows (previously restricted to 16000, now limited only by available computer memory)
  • Undo and Redo functionality
  • Frequently used Data Pad features are available in a group of drop-down menus
  • Full Unicode support for greater compatibility with Windows applications
  • Enhanced Macro support
  • OLE linking of data to Microsoft Excel from any Data Pad sheet.

Playback File extension

The Playback File extension allows you, as the name suggests, to play back data from saved LabChart files to LabChart channels. Saved data files can be used as the sole inputs of data to LabChart, or can be streamed in combination with a real-time data recording from a PowerLab unit. The source file can be streamed at its native sample rate, or resampled to rates used by the acquisition device. Any channel calculations present within the source file are generated as source data.

Any file that is recognized by LabChart can be used as a source file (including imported file types):

  • EDF
  • MATLAB
  • WAV
  • FLAC
  • OGG

The Playback Extension will be available from the Feature Manager in early October.

Background Subtraction in Scope View

Scope Background Subtraction allows you to remove periodic recurring signals. This is achieved by specifying a particular Scope View page as ‘background’ which is then subtracted from all pages in the file (shown right).

Using Background Subtraction you can:

  • Assign a background page (or subpage) for the whole file
  • Choose a subset of channels to which background subtraction is applied
  • Extract the background-subtracted numbers to the Data Pad for export.

You can toggle the background subtraction on/off without losing current background settings (e.g. the page, channels), and Scope’s background subtraction is dynamic – whenever the background data changes (for example, a smoothing calculation is applied), all other pages are updated automatically.

Stacked PSD plots in Spectrum window

In addition to the Overlaid mode (below right), Power Spectrum Density traces in Spectrum View can now be viewed as a stack in separate panes (below left) to easily compare spectra of different magnitudes.

Stacked PSDs shown at left, at right the same traces have been overlaid.

Updates to the Welcome Center

For quick and easy access to recent data, Recent Files can now be searched by file name. You can store up to 100 files in the recent files list. In addition, a new group of quick links provides easy access to information on new LabChart features and extensions, technical support, learning resources and training opportunities (internet connection required).

Update: PV Loop module and LabChart Pro

Corresponding with the release of LabChart 7.3, a number of LabChart Pro modules have also been updated and released. LabChart Pro includes LabChart software and all LabChart modules for specialized analysis data, plus five years of free software upgrades.

The most significant feature updates have been made to the PV Loop Module, which now includes:

  • Integration of cuvette calibration settings with the Analysis Manager
  • Default exponential model in EDPVR Loop View
  • Alerts for negative pressure and volumes
  • New script commands
  • Help file available in Japanese
