PowerLab lends a hand at NIH-sponsored IOSP Pharmacology Course

University of Nebraska Medical Center has hosted the Integrative and Organ Systems Pharmacology (IOSP) for eight consecutive years during the month of June. The two-week intensive course encompasses lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on experience providing critical training to graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, industry scientists, and academic faculty in the use of isolated organ systems and in vivo animal models.

Dr. Abel's extensive research background on drug receptors and physiological factors that affect cardiac, vascular and visceral smooth muscle function as a Professor in both the Department of Pharmacology and Department of Pharmacy Sciences at Creighton University is a perfect match for his yearly IOSP faculty responsibilities.

Emphasis during the two weeks is placed on exploring cardiovascular pharmacology and neuropharmacology topics and Dr. Abel has incorporated the PowerLab 4/30 system as part of his direction of the cardiovascular components of the IOSP course. The PowerLab system provided attending researchers a means to collect and visualize isolated tissue experiment data during sessions and subsequently quantify dose response curves utilizing LabChart 7 software.
