PowerLab used in Study to Cheat Death

A PowerLab data acquisition system was used in an amazing research project that was featured recently on the CNN news channel. The story, broadcasted on 15th October, highlighted suspended animation research performed by Dr Mark Roth and his laboratory at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington.

The research funded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is examining the use of hydrogen sulfide, an extremely toxic gas, and its possible role as a lifesaver. Hydrogen sulfide is being used to take the place of oxygen and prevent cell death in the body. Suspended animation has been successfully induced in small animals including mice and rats.
