Remote Wireless Monitoring of Human Biopotentials

The ADInstruments BioHarness Telemetry System allows the wireless recording and analysis of human physiological signals from a single device. The system features Zephyr™ Technology Ltd BioHarness™ with patented Smart Fabric sensor technology integrated into a comfortable, unobtrusive belt-like garment and ADInstruments LabChart software with BioHarness Extension (LabChart 6.1.3 or higher for Windows).

Features and Benefits

  • Seventeen channels of real time (live wireless transmission) or fifteen channels of offline (in-built data storage) data acquisition
  • Wireless connectivity to LabChart software
  • Ideal for research, teaching, sports medicine and exercise physiology
  • Comfortable and unobtrusive belt like garment with patented Smart Fabric sensor technology
  • In-built data storage and memory up to 240MB (~ 480 hours) importable to LabChart
  • USB rechargeable battery can last up to 8 hours in continuous data-logging mode and 5 hours in data-transmission mode with LabChart
  • Enhanced analysis using LabChart Modules in real-time or after recording

Recordable Parameters in LabChart using BioHarness Extension

BioHarness can be used in applications that require wireless physiological monitoring of human subjects. Up to 17 signals can be acquired in LabChart (online or offline) using the BioHarness Extension including
  • ECG Trace (only available in live transmission mode)
  • Breathing Wave
  • R-R Period
  • Heart Rate
  • Respiration Rate
  • Skin Temperature (via an infrared sensor)
  • Posture (Angle in degrees)
  • Vector Magnitude (Activity Level)
  • Peak Acceleration
  • Activity Measurements (6 channels via 3D accelerometer)
  • Battery Voltage
  • Signal Quality (only available in live transmission mode)
Additional channels in LabChart (up to 32 channels in total) can be used for computation and analysis purposes.

Note: Acquisition through LabChart and BioHarness Extension is only possible with BioHarness devices purchased from ADInstruments.

BioHarness features a smart fabric strap with built-in sensors which are comfortable and light-weight. BioHarness transmits to the computer using a USB radio receiver with either 868.2MHz (EURO) or 915MHz (USA) transmission frequency (range up to 50 ft.).

BioHarness operates in either Radio Frequency Transmitting mode or Logging mode for remote monitoring of data. Up to 240MB (~ 480 hours) of logged data can be stored in the BioHarness ISM Module. Logged data can be imported to LabChart by placing the ISM Module in the BioHarness Charging Cradle connected to the computer via USB.

The Charging Cradle is also used to recharge the ISM Module battery and takes approximately three hours for a full charge or one hour to be 90% charged. A fully-charged BioHarness battery lasts up to 5 hours in Transmitting mode and 8 hours in Logging mode.
