Muscle Holder

The MLA013 Muscle Holder is ideally used to hold the isolated gastrocnemius muscle from the frog/toad. The holder is manufactured from perspex with built in stimulating electrodes for direct muscle or nerve stimulation experiments. As well as being robust the unit is manufactured for easy-cleaning making it ideal for student classrooms.

The isolated muscle is placed in the upper chamber with the sciatic nerve placed on electrodes located in the lower chamber. The holder has a beaker base plate which can support a beaker (150-200 ml) containing a solution in the bottom below the level of the electrodes. A silicon tube on the side of the holder, when connected to an air/oxygen source, delivers air to bubble the solution and contributes to creating a humid environment around for the muscle and nerve.

Included with the Muscle Holder holder is a bar for attaching to the MLA40 Manipulator and Stand or any laboratory retort stand. A stand clamp (purchased separately) is required for attachment to any stand.

We recommend using the Muscle Holder with the MLTF500/ST Teaching Force Transducer (0-500g).

A ML301 Bridge Pod is required for existing users of the MLT500/A Force Transducer (0-500 gms), which has been discontinued.
