The Octal Bio Amp is designed to allow the researcher using a PowerLab system to perform isolated measurements of biological signals — such as ECGs (EKGs), EMGs, and EEGs — from human or animal subjects. The Octal Bio Amp consists of eight electrically isolated differential input AC amplifiers with a shared ground connector and separate inputs. The Octal Bio Amp is recommended for use where multiple biopotentials are being recorded from a single subject rather than "daisy-chaining" multiple Bio Amps.

The Octal Bio Amp is supplied with all necessary connection cables as well as two(2) packets of MLA0310 Lead Wires (1.8 m, 10 snap on). The unit can be used with any EEG cap systems (MLAEC1, MLAEC2).

The Octal Bio Amp can be used with any PowerLab SP or later model. It also requires LabChart v4 or later, LabChart v6 or later or Scope v3.3 or later.

On the front panel of the Bio Amp each of the eight inputs has one red and one black connector and an indicator (status) light. The green connector is a shared ground connection across all eight inputs.

The Octal Bio Amp has an audio monitor output on the front panel that can be used with a wide range of headphones or externally powered speakers. The 3.5 mm stereo socket provides two channels of sound, one for each data channel. The audio output may be of use when monitoring nerve firings to control the placement of electrodes, for instance.

Hardware:
ADInstruments signal conditioners only function with PowerLab data acquisition units and therefore are not suitable for use with other data acquisition systems.
