MPVS-Ultra Single Segment Foundation System for Rats

Overview:

The PL3508B48/R Mikro-Tip Pressure Volume System (MPVS)-Ultra Single Segment Foundation System is configured for measurement of left ventricular pressure (LVP) and volume in rats using suitable Mikro-Tip pressure-volume (PV) catheter (purchased separately). A variety of PV catheters are available with all catheters having pressure sensors (single or dual) electrodes (see below). Due to their small size the sensors can be directly placed into the left ventricle of the heart for simultaneous measurement of pressure and volume with minimal disruption to heart function. In vivo, the catheters can be used in either closed or open-chest preparations as well as being used in the isolated working heart preparation.

For the MPVS Ultra Single Segment System, measurements can be only be made from outputs including:

  • Pressure 1
  • Pressure 2
  • Segment 1 (Volume)
  • ECG
  • Temperature and Cuvette (For diagnostic purposes)

Note: Segments 2 - 7 outputs are disabled by the software. Signals on the Composite Volume should be ignored.

The MPVS-Ultra Single Segment Pressure-Volume Unit can be upgraded to the MPVS-Ultra Pressure-Volume Unit for small and large animals by purchasing the 880-0168U MPVS Ultra Upgrade (Converts SS Unit to MS Unit).

Data Acquisition and Analysis:
The PowerLab 8/35 is shipped with ADInstruments LabChart software that provides data recording integrity, display and analysis features. The research system is also supplied with LabChart Pro software, which includes all the ADInstruments LabChart Modules (excluding GLP Client and Server). LabChart Modules provide application specific data acquisition, analysis and display features. 

LabChart Pro also entitles the purchaser to 5 years of FREE LabChart Pro software upgrades and updates. Purchasers are also entitled to any LabChart Module released during this 5 year period (excludes GLP Client and Server).

Features:

The 880-0168SS MPVS-Ultra Single Segment Pressure-Volume Unit provides analog outputs for two pressure signals, a composite volume and a volume segment signal. The combined pressure and volume signals can be plotted in real time using LabChart software to generate pressure-volume loops which are used to determine cardiac function.

The PowerLab 8/35 shipped with ADInstruments LabChart software provides data recording integrity, display and analysis features that include:

  • Simultaneous recording and display up to 8 channels of data online
  • Simultaneous recording and signal analysis
  • Two independent stimulator outputs
  • Wide range of low-pass filters
  • AC or DC coupling
  • A variety of measurements (with the appropriate Signal Conditioners and Transducers) including
    • Left ventricular pressure (LVP)
    • Left ventricular volume
    • Heart rate
    • Rate of pressure change (dP/dt)
    • Rate of volume change (dV/dt)
    • Systolic and end-diastolic pressure
    • ECG
    • Temperature

The research system is also supplied with LabChart Pro software, which includes all the LabChart Modules, such as ECG Analysis Module, Blood Pressure Module and Peak Analysis Module for Windows which are specifically configured to analyze and report pressure (ventricular or blood) parameters as well as examine any recordings of ECG.

The PV Loop Module records and analyzes left ventricular pressure and volume data for hemodynamic research in animals. Analyses can be conducted during or after sampling. The module allows conversion of data to absolute volumes using cuvette calibration and correcting for parallel conductance using saline calibration - all in one data file. It also provides the ability to calculate many specific hemodynamic parameters including:

  • Heart rate
  • Maximum and minimum volume
  • End-systolic volume
  • End-diastolic volume
  • Maximum and minimum pressure
  • End-systolic pressure
  • End-diastolic pressure
  • Arterial elastance
  • Cardiac output
