Extracellular Recording System

Extracellular Recording System

Overview:

The PL3508B73 Extracellular Recording System allows recording of EEG, ECG and extracellular recordings with an AC/DC Differential Amplifier with Active Headstage using glass or metal microelectrodes.

System Components:

Accessories (purchased separately):

Data Acquisition and Analysis:
The PowerLab 8/35 is shipped with ADInstruments LabChart software that provides data recording integrity, display and analysis features. The research system is also supplied with LabChart Pro software, which includes all the ADInstruments LabChart Modules (excluding GLP Client and Server). LabChart Modules provide application specific data acquisition, analysis and display features.

LabChart Pro also entitles the purchaser to 5 years of FREE LabChart Pro software upgrades and updates. Purchasers are also entitled to any LabChart Module released during this 5 year period (excludes GLP Client and Server).

For more information see the LabChart Pro page or contact your nearest ADInstruments representative.

Features:

Extracellular Amplifier:

  • AC/DC differential amplifier
  • High input impedance, Z (1012 Ohm typical)
  • Excellent common mode rejection, CMR (120 dB @ 60 Hz)
  • High DC tolerance which allows amplification at the input of microvolt extracellular action potentials that are accompanied by much larger DC electrode voltages (±2 V DC)
  • High gain with gain selections at x10, x100, x1000 and x10000
  • Low noise & bandwidth filtering (typically 8 µV p-p at 1 Hz to 10 kHz bandwidth)
  • Small active headstage which can be mounted in micromanipulators
  • Suitable for use with high impedance glass or metal microelectrodes
  • Internal Calibration signal provides easy checking of amplifier gain and operation

Applications:

This Extracellular Recording System allows recording of EEG, ECG and extracellular recording with the DP-311 Differential Amplifier with Active Headstage using glass or metal microelectrodes. Extracellular recordings include:
  • Single Unit Recording – records the electrical activity of a single one neuron with a small tip electrode
  • Multi-Unit Recording – records electrical activity generated by several neurons
  • Field Potentials - records the field potential generated from indistinguishable activity generated by many cells
  • Amperometry-records changes in the chemical composition of the oxidized components of a biological sample using a carbon electrode
For more information see the Extracellular Recordings and Neurophysiology application pages.
