Overview:
The PL3516B111 Stimulus Presentation Ultimate System provides a complete solution for conducting a range of stimulus presentation and evoked response experiments in psychophysiology, using two computers (one for stimulus presentation and the other for recording).
Any evoked response signal from a range of inputs (including the stimulus presentation computer) is monitored and synchronized via TTL event markers to the digital input of a PowerLab (or other devices that enable TTL communication), which is then recorded in LabChart (recording computer). In addition, simultaneous recording and monitoring of Féré effect, a general measurement of autonomic nervous system activity (EDR), multiple biopotentials such as ECG, EEG, EMG or EOG, heart rate, temperature can be performed in LabChart.
Please note that the typical experimental setup requires two computers (one for stimulus presentation and the other for recording) and any PowerLab data acquisition unit with digital inputs.

Data Acquisition and Analysis:
The PowerLab 16/35 is shipped with ADInstruments LabChart software that provides data recording integrity, display and analysis features. The research system is also supplied with LabChart Pro software, which includes all the ADInstruments LabChart Modules (excluding GLP Client and Server). LabChart Modules provide application specific data acquisition, analysis and display features.
LabChart Pro also entitles the purchaser to 5 years of FREE LabChart Pro software upgrades and updates. Purchasers are also entitled to any LabChart Module released during this 5 year period (excludes GLP Client and Server).
For more information see the LabChart Pro page or contact your nearest ADInstruments representative.
Features:
StimTracker
Depending on the setup (number input lines of the recording instrument) the StimTracker can mark:
- Up to four lightsensors (marking the onset of visual stimuli)
- One voice key (any PC-compatible microphone)
- Two audio channels (left and right of stereo)
- Six TTL inputs (typically used for interfacing an RB Series Response Pad with StimTracker)
SuperLab
- Playing movies
- Stimulus lists
- Support for JPEG, GIF, PNG, and TIFF files
- Built-in support for RSVP and self-paced reading
- Improved support for fMRI and EEG/ERP
- Trial variables
- Conditional branching (if/then/else)
- Multiple input devices in the same experiment
Applications:
- Response/reaction time (RT, the time is the elapsed time between the presentation of a sensory stimulus and the subsequent behavioral response)
- Mental chronometry - the use of response time in perceptual-motor tasks to infer the content, duration, and temporal sequencing of cognitive operations
- Cognitive psychophysiology/cognitive neuroscience (perception, learning, adaptation)
- Behavioral neuroscience
- Decision making (processing)
- Psychometric psychology as an index of speed of processing in (indicates how fast the thinker can execute the mental operations needed by the task at hand or index of processing efficiency)
- Biofeedback - process that enables an individual to learn how to change physiological activity for the purposes of improving health and performance
- Stress response
- Supplementary results to other studies including
- EEG, Electroencephalography
- EMG, Electromyography
- EOG, Eye Movement
- Psychophysiology
