The Gas Analyzer can be used for the measurement of respiratory gas concentrations from small animals, such as rats, through to humans. It contains an infrared carbon dioxide sensor and optical oxygen detector fed from a damped microvacuum sampling pump. The analyzer samples expired gas from a mixing chamber. A flow control knob on the front of the unit provides sampling rates of 35 to 200 mL/min (Maximum values may vary for different sized and lengths of tubing). The ability to vary the sampling rate of the vacuum pump makes the unit ideal for animal research as well as for use with humans in student laboratories.
The ML206 can be connected to PowerLab systems through the I
2C connector. This allows the PowerLab system to automatically recognize the analyzer and provide automatic allocation and calibration of the carbon dioxide and oxygen channels in LabChart. Alternatively the analyzer can be used as a stand-alone instrument, however it will require calibration of the oxygen and carbon dioxide analyzers.
When used with human subjects we recommend using the Gas Analyzer with the MLA246
Gas Mixing Chamber. As well as the necessary power cord and cables the unit is supplied with an Owner's Guide,
Drying Tube (MLA0343) and
In-line Filters (Pack of 10; MLA0110).
The Gas Analyzer should be used with the Drying Tube and In-line Filter to protect the transducers from moisture or damaging particulates.
