Favorite Features

Use the numbers below to navigate through LabChart's most popular tools and displays. We've included the features that our customers tell us save time and increase productivity, as well as the features that our sales and support staff always demonstrate.

Can't see your favorite feature here? Tell us about it, and we will add it to the website.

Welcome Center

Welcome Centre: Gain access to LabChart resources and materials within one interface. Open your LabChart files, access all ADInstruments documents (including demo files and supporting documents), clone document settings easily as well as access and search up to 100 recently opened files.

Multiple block sampling

You can record multiple blocks of data with different sampling speeds, filter settings and amplification, all within a single file. A pop-up for each data block displays the recording settings within the block.

Sampling from Multiple Devices on up-to 32 Channels

You can record a maximum of 32 channels of live data, from multiple PowerLab units and a BioHarness system into a single LabChart file.

Continuous Auto Scale

You can continually re-scale the vertical display in Chart View channels online (while sampling) or offline (while scrolling). This feature dynamically adjusts the signal to the available display area.

Analysis Manager

You can use Analysis Manager in conjunction with LabChart modules to save the analysis settings associated with any number of data regions. This enables analysis of separate data regions within a data file, multiple analyses of the same or different data regions, and the results of each analysis to be saved and recalled. The Analysis Manager can also be used with LabChart alone to save and recall selections of data and/or active points in both Chart and Scope View.

Spectrum View

Spectrum View: Display and analyze the component frequencies of a signal with Spectrum View. Power Spectral Density (PSD) and Spectrogram plots can be viewed in online or offline modes, as overlaid traces or in separate panes. The Spectrum parameters can be calculated and values exported to Data Pad.

Stimulator

Facilitates the generation of a wide variety of stimulus waveforms using the PowerLab analog outputs. You can use preconfigured waveforms, or generate and save a custom stimulus waveform. Two independent stimulus outputs can be generated using LabChart 7.2 for Windows and PowerLab 30 series units.

The Stimulator panel outputs and custom stimulus waveform dialog

Software controlled settings

All gain ranges and filter settings can be quickly and precisely set using the software, therefore no knobs or buttons are required to configure the hardware.

Input Amplifier

This feature allows you to preview the signal in real time prior to recording. This helps you to select the appropriate amplification, filter settings, perform units conversion and others to optimize your recording parameters.

Scope View (Windows only)

Transform your computer into a software oscilloscope. View your LabChart data with blocks and events overlaid, variable persistence, and signal averaging. Sampling, configuration and macro settings are available to record data in Scope View, which is simultaneously updated in Chart View. You can vary the offset of each trace along the z-axis, giving a 3D display mode to help distinguish the overlaid traces. Background Subtraction allows you to remove periodic signals for further analysis.

Split Bar

Split Chart View to observe and compare previously recorded data as you continue to record and view your online data. Each split view contains its own time-axis which you scroll along, expand or condense.

Customizable comments

Add comments during or after recording. You can add comments in a specific channel or all channels offline. Following a recording you can easily find, edit, move and delete comments in the data file.

Channel calculations

Apply many powerful calculations to any signal, online or offline, without losing the raw data. You can perform cyclic analysis, differentiate and integrate recorded signals. There are also many digital filter and signal smoothing options in LabChart.

DVM

View a numerical display of the amplitude, sampling rate or calculated value of any signal in a stand alone, resizeable mini-window.

LabChart Modules & Extensions

A wide range of specialized software add-ons for fast and easy analysis of discrete data sets. Extensions provide simple data analysis and export features while modules provide an advanced suite of analysis options.

Editable Macros (Windows) – Advanced Scripting

Automate your recording and analysis with macros. Basic or complex macros may be programmed and edited to suit your needs.

Cyclic Measurements

Perform various cyclic analyses on periodic signals. Numerous statistics and functions are available online and offline. Customizable presets are also available to assist with accurate and fast detection of the periodical signals.

Shortcut Key Manager

Navigate LabChart using preset shortcuts, or use the Shortcut Key Manager to customize your own shortcuts.

Find and Select

Use the Find and Select function to locate data of interest quickly and accurately. You can go to the start of the file or find data marked by comments.

Data Pad

Powered by the ADInstruments Spreadsheet Engine, designed and built by in-house software architects. It features parallel processing and full Unicode support so you can extract and log data and statistics with nonpareil speed. Data Pad (Windows) supports OLE linking to automate data extraction in real time.

XY Plot

Plot variables against each other to observe their relationships as XY or XYY displays. When the result of the plot is a loop, you can also show the direction of the loop and calculate the area of the loop.

Zoom View

Magnify the view of the data to obtain more detail. You can zoom into the data several times in the Zoom View window by continually selecting data of interest. This zooming process is recorded and therefore, allows you to scroll back and forward.

Marker Tool

Mark a reference point on the recorded data and measure differences in the X and Y axis to that point. In the Zoom View, you can also measure differences in the X-axis between two points from two recorded data signals.

Feature Manager

The entire repository of ADInstruments' software including Modules and Extensions is grouped according to function and application making it easier for you to search and download any of our software products. Either manually perform or schedule LabChart to perform automatic daily, weekly or monthly check for new versions of LabChart, Modules and Extensions.

Save As

Save and export as LabChart data files, setting files, text files, an Excel file as well as a number of proprietary formats.

Playback File Support

The Playback File LabChart extension is now available for LabChart 7.3 This powerful new feature allows data from existing LabChart files to be streamed in real time during recording, just as if the data were coming from an attached device. This allows you to mimic real-time recording situations using previously recorded data. Playback File makes it perfect for in-class demonstrations where you might not have all of the equipment available, but want to simulate real-time PowerLab sampling.
