LabChart Extensions
are available for downloading free of charge. They provide additional data formatting, filtering, visualization, measurement and calculation features for the LabChart program.ADInstruments are currently updating and improving extensions for use with LabChart. We will be updating these extensions with an expected completion date within several weeks. For more information please contact your nearest ADInstruments representative.
Absorbance
– MacintoshAbsorbance is a LabChart extension that allows you to convert
spectrophotometer outputs from transmittance to absorbance. The
relationship between transmittance and absorbance is non-linear and the
Absorbance extension performs a conversion between the two, generating
a linear result.
Audio Output
– WindowsAudio Output is a LabChart extension which allows LabChart data to be played back as sound. Audio Output is useful for teaching and research and can be used to play back sounds such as heart sounds, animal sounds and voice. Audio Output replaces the existing Play Sound extension.
Amplitude Histogram
– MacintoshAmplitude Histogram is a LabChart extension which determines the
amplitude distribution of a signal. This extension allows you to define
bin widths and perform additional analysis such as mean, standard
deviation and standard error. Various graphing options are also
available.
BioHarness
– WindowsThe BioHarness™ Extension for LabChart 7 allows recording comprehensive physiological data when using the BioHarness hardware made by Zephyr™ Technology Ltd. The hardware includes the BioHarness strap, BioHarness device, USB receiver, docking cradle and USB cable.
The BioHarness™ Extension will only work with BioHarness ISM Modules and Receivers that have been sold and programmed by ADInstruments Pty Ltd. An ADInstruments PowerLab data acquisition unit is not required to use the BioHarness with LabChart software.
Curve Fit
– MacintoshCurve Fit is a LabChart extension which performs non-linear least
squares fitting of equations to data. This extension allows analytical
or iterative fitting of predefined or user defined equations to data
that has been recorded as a function of time.
Fast Response Output
– Macintosh or WindowsFast Response Output is a LabChart extension that allows you to control
the digital outputs on a /30 series PowerLab and the analog outputs on
/20, /25 and /30 series PowerLabs, for generation of rapid responses
from within the PowerLab itself. Because Fast Response Output responds
to the input signal as soon as it reaches the PowerLab, the resultant
user-defined output is produced in less than 1 millisecond,
irrespective of the speed of the computer.
Evoked Response
– MacintoshEvoked Response is a LabChart extension which analyzes physiological
responses to a stimulus (evoked response experiments). A number of
response parameters can be measured and logged to the Data Pad. This
process can be automated to analyze a series of stimuli/response
cycles.
Event Manager
– WindowsEvent Manager is a LabChart extension which allows you to monitor user defined events online using different criteria, and to perform a variety of user defined actions.
Export MATLAB
– Macintosh or WindowsExport MATLAB is a LabChart extension which allows LabChart for Windows files to be saved and exported as MATLAB compatible files. MATLAB is a flexible data analysis program available from The Mathworks Inc. (www.mathworks.com). Export MATLAB is available to download as an installer from the Extension File link below. A LabChart.m demonstration file which shows how to display data in MATLAB is also available to download below.
Export QuickTime
– Macintosh or WindowsExport QuickTime is a LabChart extension which allows you to save LabChart data files as QuickTime movies. The QuickTime movies can be viewed on any QuickTime supported platform or embedded in other media that supports QuickTime movies. For example, they can be inserted into PowerPoint presentations, Word documents, or html pages.
Function Generator
– MacintoshFunction Generator is a LabChart extension which lets you generate
artificial data. This is useful for comparing theoretical and
experimental data and for educational purposes.
Export WAV
– WindowsExport WAV is a LabChart extension which allows LabChart for Windows files to be saved as uncompressed audio WAV files. Audio WAV files can be played by a number of applications, including Adobe Audition and other audio editing software.
Peak Parameters
– MacintoshPeak Parameters is a LabChart extension which determines a number of
parameters for an individual peak. Parameters calculated include peak
height, width, slope and various time parameters. It is useful for
determining parameters of action potentials such as cardiac potentials,
EPSP and IPSP.
PVAN
– WindowsThe PVAN extension allows export of LabChart data in a selection directly into Millar Instruments's PVAN, MPress and PVAN Ultra applications. It does this through an intermediate file holding the exported data.
Read AcqKnowledge
– Macintosh or WindowsThe Read AcqKnowledge Extension for ADInstruments LabChart® provides an easy means to import BIOPAC® AcqKnowledge® (.acq) files into LabChart. Files (.acq) created on either a Windows or Macintosh computer can be opened in LabChart for Macintosh, using this extension.
The Read AcqKnowledge Extension supports files created with versions of AcqKnowledge up to 3.9.0 and BSL and BSL PRO up to 3.7.0.

pH Measurement
– MacintoshpH Measurement is a LabChart extension which allows calibration of pH
and ISE (ion selective electrodes) electrodes using single or double
point methods.
Play Sound
– MacintoshPlay Sound is a LabChart extension which allows selected LabChart data to be played as sound.
Scheduler
– WindowsThe Scheduler Extension for LabChart allows the scheduling of recordings across one or more LabChart data files. A schedule may consist of an initial delay, followed by repeated recording cycles, until a specified end time. Scheduler can also be used with external scheduling devices, such as the TR Scheduler Pod.
Spirometry
– Macintosh or WindowsSpirometry is a LabChart extension used to derive a number of
respiratory parameters based on flow and volume. These include VE, VT,
frequency, PIF, PEF, FVC, FEV1. The Spirometry Extension also generates
a flow-volume plot and spirometry reports. This extension is designed
for both teaching and research.
RMS & Noise
– MacintoshRMS and Noise is a LabChart extension which determines the power content of a signal. The RMS part of the extension derives the power content, while the noise part computes the content of the AC component.
Telegraph
– WindowsTelegraph is a LabChart extension which makes use of the gain-telegraph output from an electrophysiological amplifier to continue to display data at the correct scale after a gain change.
SAECG
– MacintoshSAECG (signal averaged ECG) is a LabChart extension which calculates
the averaged cycle of ECG signals. This allows for the removal of noise
and unwanted signals.
Translate Axon
– WindowsTranslate Axon enables LabChart to read and write files that are compatible with pCLAMP, a system for the acquisition and analysis of electrophysiological data that is produced by Axon Instruments (www.axon.com). The pCLAMP software uses a file format known as Axon Binary File (ABF) format, with .abf or .dat filename extensions, and both of these file types can be imported by the Translate Axon Extension. Axon’s AxoGraph for Macintosh and third party applications such as Bio-Logic’s Bio-Patch application (www.bio-logic.fr) and SigmaPlot from SPSS (www.spss.com) can also import files in ABF format.
Savitzky Golay
– MacintoshSavitzky-Golay is a LabChart extension which provides off-line data smoothing. The Savitzky-Golay smoothing algorithm is especially suited to removing noise from data where peak shape is important e.g. for ECG and also for differential calculations.
Translate Binary
– WindowsTranslate Binary is a LabChart extension which allows LabChart for Windows files to be saved and exported in a simple binary format. Translate Binary can import documents that have either been exported from LabChart, or generated by another application.
Translate EDF
– WindowsTranslate EDF is a software extension for LabChart for Windows that allows LabChart to save data as an EDF file, and to read EDF files. Translate EDF does not support the EDF+ format. European Data Format (EDF) is an open format initially designed in 1992 for the interchange of data obtained in clinical neurophysiology. EDF+ is a development of the base EDF protocol that allows for discontinuous time signals and annotations to those signals.
STM
– MacintoshSTM (spectral-temporal mapping) is a LabChart extension that displays a
plot of frequency versus time where frequency amplitude is represented
by colour. This allows you to determine regions where a particular
frequency is dominant and to correlate this with other signals.
Template
– MacintoshTemplate is a LabChart extension that allows you to match a data
template with similar occurrences in a larger data set. Template
provides a choice of three different algorithms. These include RMS
Error, Correlation or Convolution.
Ventricular Pressure
– MacintoshVentricular Pressure is a LabChart extension that allows you to analyze
recordings of cardiac ventricular pressure. It adds functionality to
the LabChart Find command which lets you find the time of end-diastolic
pressure and calculate the LVEDP.
XY Plot
– MacintoshXY Plot is a LabChart extension which provides an on-line (real-time),
XY-Plot window that plots one channel of data against another.
