Overview:
The MLS310/7 Heart Rate Variability Module (HRV) for Windows analyzes beat-to-beat interval variation in ECG recordings or arterial pulse signals coming from humans or animals. It extends LabChart function to allow analysis and display of RR interval variation. Users can investigate the effects of exercise or stress on cardiac function using specialized analysis features.
The HRV Module uses a threshold detector to detect the R component from each raw ECG waveform and generate RR Interval data. Beats are automatically distinguished by the software and classified into three groups: normal, ectopic or artifact.
The HRV Module should be used with the latest version of LabChart. The HRV Module is also available as part of LabChart Pro. The LabChart Pro software package includes all LabChart Modules. Existing LabChart users and PowerLab system purchasers can upgrade to LabChart Pro at a special price. If you need more information please contact your ADInstruments Representative.

Sample Applications:
HRV Module applications include studies analyzing the beat-to-beat interval variation in ECG recordings or arterial pulse signals. Sample applications include:
- Isolated Langendorff and Working Heart Model
- Sleep Studies
- Telemetry Studies for wireless monitoring of animal biopotential
- Psychophysiology
Features & Benefits:
- Detection and analysis of R waves & RR interval variation in ECG in real-time or offline.
- Ideal for animal and human cardiovascular studies.
- Automatically classify beats as normal, ectopic or artifact from user select interval classification limits.
- Exclude artifacts or include beats in the analysis on an individual basis.
- Option to add R waves or delete R waves which have incorrectly created short artifacts.
- Adjustable histogram bin size.
- Automatic generation of clinically accepted statistical parameters.
- Specialized analysis plot windows derived from RR interval data includes:
- Poincaré Plot: scatter plot where each RR interval is plotted against its preceding RR interval with displayed mean (central point) and standard deviation (ellipse). RR interval classification boxes are also displayed and limits can be adjusted by dragging the boxes.
- Period Histogram: displays the frequency distribution of NN intervals from the Poincaré Plot.
- Delta NN Histogram: displays the frequency distribution of differences between each NN interval and its successor from the Poincaré Plot.
- Tachogram plots: successive RR interval values against the ‘beat number’. Horizontal dotted lines indicate the limits for ectopic and artifact recognition. These lines can be dragged to alter the limits.
- Spectrum: displays the power spectrum of time-based Tachogram, also referred to as the 'Spectrum of Intervals'. Draggable vertical lines indicate limits of LF and HF regions of the spectrum.
- Automatic generation of exportable and printable report displaying information about data recording, details of subject, HRV analysis statistical results and user comments.
- All HRV windows are linked for immediate update when modifications are performed.

HRV Module R wave marker. Normal beat is represented by green circle, ectopic beat by yellow circle and artifact beat by red circle.
HRV Poincaré Plot Window plots each RR interval against the preceding RR interval. The interval classification limits are easily adjusted to change the classification boundaries.
HRV Period Histogram Window.
HRV Delta NN Histogram Window.
HRV Spectrum Window plots a power spectrum of the RR intervals.
HRV Tachogram Window plots the RR duration against the corresponding beat number.
HRV Report Window displays information about the file and data recording, details of subject, HRV analysis statistical results and user comments.
HRV Settings Window Analysis Tab allows the classification of artifact, ectopic and normal beat intervals. There are options to exclude ectopic intervals from analysis, specify histogram bin size, enter NN interval variation threshold and change spectrum parameters.
HRV Settings Window R wave detector tab allows user to specify data source channel, preview area displaying data from selected channel, control signal pre-processing, change event detection positioning, specify threshold for beat detection setting and a retrigger delay option.
