Oxygen Concentration (O2 Measurements)

PowerLab data acquisition systems to record O2 levels in resting and active subjects. Third-party O2 sensors may be used with PowerLab provided that they have suitable analog outputs.

ADInstruments can provide a Gas Analyzer that connects to any PowerLab and measures O2 concentrations in air. The Exercise Physiology System, in conjunction with the Metabolic Module (Win or Mac) and LabChart, provides an integrated system for students to measure VCO2 and VO2. This is particularly useful for students conducting studies in exercise physiology.

Blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) in human subjects may be monitored using SpO2 Finger or SpO2 Ear clips in conjunction with the Oximeter Pod. For advanced teaching laboratories, transcutaneous O2 (tcpO2) levels can be monitored using non-invasive skin electrodes. For more information, please contact your nearest ADInstruments representative.

Using the above sensors, students can perform a series of experiments to investigate the relationship between respiration and O2. To complement these types of experiments we also have available Piezo Respiratory Belt Transducers, Nasal Temperature Probes, Spirometers and prepackaged Teaching Kits (Human Respiratory Kit, Exercise Physiology Kit).
