Earthworm Smooth Muscle (Korean)
In this experiment, contractions of the earthworm gut are measured in an organ bath with a force transducer. The effect of neurotransmitters and changing ionic concentrations on contraction strength and rate are investigated.

In this experiment, students will be able to:
- Describe the pattern of movements in the isolated gut preparation.
- Measure the effect of changes in temperature on gut function.
- Describe and explain the effects of increasing the potassium (K+) concentration and altering the calcium (Ca2+) concentration on gut contraction rate and force.
- Describe the effects of the neurotransmitters, acetylcholine and epinephrine, on gut contraction rate and force.
