In this experiment, students will record and analyze electroencephalograms (EEGs) from a volunteer to look at the effect of various interfering signals. Students will examine the effect on alpha and beta waves caused by opening and shutting the eyes, as well as auditory and mental cues.

Students will:

  • Recognize common artifacts in EEG signals.
  • Identify and quantify alpha waves.
  • Understand how alpha wave activity is changed by mental activity and auditory stimulation
