Mammalian Atria (English)
The atria from the heart of small laboratory animals survive well in vitro, and continue to beat spontaneously for hours - provided that the sino-atrial node is not damaged during dissection. In this experiment students will use this preparation to study responses to drugs that affect the frequency and strength of muscle contraction.

Dose-response assay of isoprenaline in the Guinea Pig Atria.
In this laboratory, students will be able to describe the effects on the isolated guinea pig atria of:
- Isoproterenol (isoprenaline) and propranolol
- Acetylcholine and atropine
- Physostigmine and acetylcholine
- Electrical stimulation of atrial muscle
