Stimulated Ileum (English)
In this experiment aspects of gut smooth muscle function is studied. Students will first examine the response of the tissue to electrical stimulation. They will then administer various drugs and observe their effects on evoked muscle contraction.
Dose-response assay of codeine (morphine) in the Guinea Pig Ileum
Students will observe the following effects on the isolated guinea pig ileum:
- Electrical stimulation
- Codeine
- Codeine in the presence of naloxone or naltrexone
- Norepinephrine (noradrenaline)
