pdf (portable document format) files

What are PDFs?
Portable Document Format files (PDFs) contain formatted text and graphics. This allows PDF files to look identical when viewed on different platforms (Mac OS, Unix Systems, Windows etc.).

ADInstruments produces a number of documents, including application notes, instructor notes, and teaching experiments, in PDF form. These are available to download from this web site or available on CD from your nearest ADInstruments representative.

PDF files are created using Adobe® Acrobat® software. Adobe produce a free application called Adobe Acrobat Reader which allows you to download, open, read, and print PDF files.

Adobe Acrobat Reader
Adobe Acrobat Reader allows you to download, open, read and print PDF files. It also provides a powerful search engine and a navigation index which lets you find sections within a document easily.

If you do not already have Adobe Acrobat Reader, then you can download the latest version free of charge from the Adobe web site.

Other sources of Adobe Acrobat Reader include:

  • Mac Computers - the software is shipped as standard with recent Mac OS computers. Check your Macintosh system to see if it is already installed.
  • The ADInstruments CDs that come with your PowerLab system contain an installer for Adobe Acrobat Reader.

Downloading, Reading, and Printing PDFs
To read ADInstruments PDFs, we recommend you use Acrobat Reader v3.0 or later.

Downloading PDF Documents.
To download a PDF from the web site, simply click on the appropriate link. The file will either download onto your machine or will open in your browser. Whether the file downloads or opens depends on how your browser is configured. Use your browser preferences to reconfigure it.

View PDF Documents.
PDF files on both Mac and Windows computers will have a ".pdf" extension. Simply double click these or open them from within Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can then view the file or print it out for future reference.

Printing PDF Documents.
Our PDF pages are designed for A4 printing. There is a 'Shrink to Fit' checkbox in the Print dialog box (in the Acrobat Reader panel on some systems). Turn this on, and the pages should fit whatever paper you print on.
