expanding stuffit files for Mac and Windows

What are StuffIt Files?
StuffIt files are files compressed by Aladdin Systems compression software. These files have a '.sit' file extension. They take up significantly less room than expanded files and improve download time and reliability.

ADInstruments Macintosh software available from this web site has been compressed into StuffIt files. These files must be expanded using Aladdin Systems StuffIt Expander v5.1.2 or later, before they can be used.

Note: ADInstruments Windows software available from this web site is saved in executable '.exe' file format. It is not compressed and does not need to be expanded before use.

StuffIt Expander for Macintosh
StuffIt Expander lets you expand Mac files that have been compressed into StuffIt files. If you do not already have StuffIt Expander, then you can download it free of charge from Aladdin Systems web site: www.aladdinsys.com/expander/index.html

StuffIt Expander v5.1.2 or later is required. Earlier versions will fail to work, or may give misleading messages such as the files are corrupt or damaged.

Note: StuffIt Expander is also available for Windows. It allows you to expand files compressed in '.zip' , '.sit' and other file formats. You can download it free of charge from Aladdin Systems web site: www.aladdinsys.com/expander/index.html.

Downloading and Expanding StuffIt Files
To download a '.sit' file from the web site, simply click the appropriate link. The file will download onto your computer. Depending on how your browser is configured, the downloaded file may then be expanded automatically (settings in the Preference menu of your browser determine this). If not, you will have to expand it before you can use it. To expand a stuffed file manually, simply drag it onto the StuffIt Expander icon, or open it from within the Expander program.

An expanded copy of the file with an appropriate file extension will be placed at the same level as the compressed file. You can now use this expanded file as usual.
