Using the Notebook

As part of good laboratory practice, you will want to keep notes about your experiments. LabChart provides an electronic laboratory notebook where pertinent information such as the date and time, group details, protocols, recording conditions, and any special features of the experimental procedure can be entered (see Figure 1 below). To open the Notebook, go to LabChart’s Windows menu and choose Notebook.

Up to 32 000 characters can be entered, and the text can be edited in the normal way. Date and Time buttons at the bottom of the window automatically insert the date and time into your notes (in the format set for your computer). The contents of the Data Pad can be pasted into the Notebook but you cannot paste in graphics (such as a copy of the Zoom window). The contents of the Notebook can be copied to the Clipboard for transfer to other applications, and the Notebook can be printed. The Notebook is automatically saved together with the LabChart data when you save the recording.

For further information about the Notebook, refer to your LabChart User’s Guide or contact your local ADInstruments distributor.
