Spirometry Extension: Chart 5 for Windows

Spirometry is a Chart extension used to derive a number of respiratory parameters based on flow and volume. These include VE, VT, frequency, PIF, PEF, FVC, FEV1. The Spirometry Extension also generates a flow-volume plot and spirometry reports. This extension is designed for both teaching and research, not for clinical diagnostic purposes.

Spirometry v2.0 requires Chart v5.4 or later. We recommend that all users update to Spirometry v2.0.

Spirometry v2.0 is compatible with existing Chart data files. Spirometry v2.0 settings are not backwards compatible, files with settings created by Spirometry v2.0 cannot be loaded using earlier versions of Spirometry.

Spirometry is available to download as an installer from the Extension File link below. The installer will put the extension into the Chart Extensions folder and the Users Guide into the Documentation folder.

For additional information about installing extensions see the Downloading and Installing Chart Extensions for Windows page.

Downloading of resources is free to PowerLab users but requires a password. If you do not have a password register here.

To find out if your computer is able to use Spirometry, visit the ADInstruments Software system requirements page.

Release Notes for Spirometry v2.0

New Features
    Detection Preview Pane
The new Preview pane displays the Flow channel and cycle detection markers, allowing the user to preview their data sampling and analysis based on current settings.

    Language Translations
Additional language translations include French and Spanish, as well as Chinese and Japanese. Spirometry automatically loads the appropriate language version for compatibility with the Chart language version installed.

    Online Help
Online help has been introduced, with new help buttons added to dialogs and an entry in the Help menu to allow easy access. Online help has been translated into Chinese, Japanese and Spanish.

Improvements
    Analysed Selection
Automatically locates the first and last complete breath cycles in a users selection and applies analysis to whole cycles only.

    Analysing Data
  • Improved breath detection algorithms.
  • Improved Graph display.
  • New dialogs aid analysis setup and display.

  •     Report Information
Two additional subheadings have been added to the Report.
  • "Settings": details the settings used for the analysis
  • "Selection": details the extent of the user selection and the extent of the whole breaths in the selection analyzed.

  •     Settings Dialog
  • New limits of 0.01 to 10.0 (inclusive) have been added for the Cycle detection and Forced expiration threshold levels.
  • Flow and Volume channels are now automatically identified and displayed in the Settings dialog.

  •     Spirometry Windows
  • The Data Window time axis is now labeled "Time (s)".
  • All Flow-Volume data is now displayed in the Flow-Volume plot. Previously some data was not shown.

  •     Spirometry Volume Dialog
  • Updated the Dead Space display with the units "mL".
  • Default values for dead space and calculated volume ratio are 400 mL and 1.0 respectively. If the defaults are deleted and the fields left blank these default to 0 and 1 respectively.
  • The volume ratio limit has been standardized to 0.01 and 10.0 inclusive.
