Peer Teaching Projects with Lt Resources

Barb Goodman - Professor, University of South Dakota - Basic Biomedical Science

Advanced undergraduates and occupational therapy doctoral students in my team-based, student-centered learning physiology classes do a number of Lt preclinical medicine experiments with Lt case studies. Sometimes I have half of the teams do one experiment and half of the teams do another experiment, before the students prepare a project to teach the other teams what they have learned. The peer teaching can take the form of either oral presentations or poster presentations.

Antimicrobial Stewardship - Learning about Antibiotic PKPD through Simulations on Lt

Lauren Smith - Professional Practice Fellow, The University Of Otago - School of Pharmacy

Natalie Medlicott - Professor, The University Of Otago - School of Pharmacy

Antimicrobial stewardship aims to increase the appropriate use of antimicrobial agents worldwide. Pharmacist training programmes and curricula devote considerable time to developing knowledge about antimicrobials, microorganisms, and designing effective dosing regimens. One type of antimicrobial stewardship intervention is optimizing dosing to increase efficacy and reduce the likelihood of resistance.

We combined our antimicrobial stewardship (Lauren) and drug delivery (Natalie) expertise to develop a teaching session in Lt that utilizes dosing simulations and lets students see how changing dosages affect plasma concentrations, as well as the relationship to microorganism minimum inhibitory concentration.
