Blood pressure is the pressure exerted by blood on the surrounding vessel walls as it is pumped around the cardiovascular system by the heart. The ability to measure continuous and chronic arterial, venous and vascular pressure signals directly at the source through telemetry provides a greater level of data accuracy and sensitivity to support your research.

Kaha Sciences telemetry solutions from ADInstruments combine wireless power and state of the art solid-state sensor technology from Millar to allow high fidelity, accurate, and repeatable pressure recordings. This provides confidence in basic feature extraction across animals (e.g. systolic, diastolic) but also facilitates more complex analysis such as spectral analysis and cardiac output from BP and dP/dt calculations from LVP.

Advantages of telemetry
Conscious Anesthesia affects most physiological control systems and can significantly confound your results. Telemetry allows data to be collected from conscious animals after they have recovered from surgery and enables cognitive and behavioral studies not possible under anesthesia.

Unrestrained Restraining animals induces stress which affects normal physiological functions and the data recorded. Telemetry allows data collection from animals in their home cage without the stress induced by the presence of researchers or handling.

Long-term By monitoring physiological functions over days, weeks or months, researchers can study biological rhythms and follow the development of pathology as it occurs. Within animal design strengthens the statistical power of a study and can reduce group sizes.
