How can a Millar Electrophysiology (EPR) catheter be connected to an ADInstruments FE238 or ML138 Octal Bio Amp?

To connect a Millar Electrophysiology catheter (EPR-800, EPR-801, and EPR-802) the following items are required in addition to the catheter:

First, connect the MLAC29 and MLAC49 linking cables to the ground and negative inputs of the FE238 Octal Bio Amp as shown in the image below (Note While image shows the FE238 front panel connections to the discontinued ML138 are identical:

The double sided connector of the MLAC49 will not be connected at this time.

Next, connect the eight 1.5 mm touch proof connectors on the EPC-5a Cable to the appropriate positive inputs on the Octal Bio Amp. Connect the SP0134 Earth Cable to the grounding stud on the back of the PowerLab, and clip the alligator clip on the opposite end of the cable to the bare-ended green wire in the EPC-5a Cable's wiring harness.  This green wire is connected to the shield surrounding the EPC-5a's wiring harness, and connecting it to earth ground will decrease the chance of electrical noise being induced into the signal.

If using the EPR catheter in an in vivo application with disposable, snap-connect  ECG electrodes, connect one of the MLA0313 Lead Wires to the MLAC49's double sided connector, and attach it to an electrode placed on a prepared area of the animal's belly.

If using the EPR catheter in an ex vivo application, connect one of the MLA1505 Lead Wires to the MLAC49's double sided connector, and clamp it to a piece of silver wire stripped of its insulation and wrapped around a cannula and its associated vessel as shown in the image below:

The EPR catheter can now be implanted and connected to the EPC-5a Interface Cable for data recording.
