Why do I get a 'Batteries might be weak' error message, or have to 'Enter Bluetooth Passkey' when pairing with the Wii Balance Board?

When pairing with the Wii Balance Board, you may encounter an error message stating that the batteries might be weak, or you may be presented with a dialog asking you to enter the Bluetooth passkey. This can happen when using a Bluetooth receiver that does not use the standard Microsoft Bluetooth drivers.

In both cases, first try using a generic USB Bluetooth dongle that does not require drivers to be installed (i.e., when you plug it in, Windows detects it and automatically installs the standard Microsoft Bluetooth driver).

If you still get the "Enter Bluetooth Passkey" dialog, you can ignore the passkey (leave it blank) and click "next" to skip over this dialog. You might have to do this twice or more before the Wii Balance Board is paired, then you need to exit LabChart and restart. LabChart should then detect the Wii Balance Board and be able to sample from it.
