Our step-by-step guide to connecting the GSR Amp to a PowerLab and LabChart set-up.

Overview:

Our Head of Support, Mark de Reus, demonstrates how to connect the GSR Amp with a PowerLab to record galvanic skin response (GSR) signals in LabChart software.

Equipment Required:
  • I-Squared-C cable.
  • BNC cable.
  • USB cable.
  • PowerLab.
  • Computer with LabChart Software installed.
  • GSR finger electrodes.

Hardware Set-Up:
  1. Connect the GSR Amp and PowerLab units using the I-Squared-C input on the GSR Amp and the output on the PowerLab.
  2. Connect the BNC cable to the signal output on the GSR Amp.
  3. Connect the other end of the BNC cable to one of the channels of the PowerLab.
  4. Connect one side of the USB cable to the PowerLab and the other to the computer with LabChart.
  5. Connect the power cable and switch on the PowerLab.
  6. Plug the GSR finger electrodes into the GSR Amp; these will be used to record your participants' galvanic skin response signal.

Software Set-Up:
  1. Launch your LabChart software.
  2. The GSR Amp should be automatically detected by LabChart
    1. The Status LED on the GSR Amp should turn green.
  3. Set the number of required channels.
  4. Select the dropdown list of the channel the GSR Amp is connected to, and select ‘settings.'
  5. In the GSR Amp dialogue box:
    1. Set up the range of the input signal (leave on 40 µS for zeroing)
    2. Click on ‘open-circuit zero.’
    3. Click on OK.
  6. Place the electrodes on your participant’s forefinger and ring finger.
  7. Allow a couple of minutes for the GSR Amp to calibrate.
  8. Re-open the GSR Amp settings from earlier and select ‘Subject Zero’ to zero the signal for this participant.
  9. Click on OK.
  10. Press start to begin recording.
