Staff guide to group login in Lt

Students sign in together on one shared computer and work in a single group session. The first student added becomes the group leader, whose existing lesson determines the work the group continues. Make membership and the intended version clear before students begin.

Prepare the lesson

  1. Find the lesson in your course, select Edit Details, enable Group Lesson, and save.
  2. Publish the lesson and configure availability for the intended students or sections. Confirm that every participant has access.
  3. Confirm the sign-in route students should use for group login. If you are unsure whether the route supports Group Login, check with your instance administrator before giving students instructions.
  4. Provide the lesson title or link, group membership rules, and deadline. Explain how students should choose the leader when continuing existing work.
  5. Add group login instructions at the beginning and end of the lesson using the template below or your own wording. Explain the required review, commit or submission step, and remind students to sign out when finished.

Run a session using group login

Before work begins

Ask the group to choose the student whose lesson should be used. That student signs in first and becomes group leader. Each remaining student adds their own credentials using Add to group; the group checks the list and selects Sign in.

Students open the group lesson and confirm Start with Group or Continue with Group. Ask them to read the member list and replacement warning before proceeding. A member's existing work can be replaced by the selected group work.

The group session shows common accessible group lessons. If the lesson is missing, check each student's enrolment, access, and whether Group Lesson is enabled.

Returning or changing membership

Students sign out and form a new group to change the leader or members. Choose the intended leader first and verify the answers before continuing. The leader's existing lesson controls which work is continued; a new leader without existing work can start an empty lesson even when another member has work.

If any member has already committed, the start or continue dialog may block the group. Have a course administrator review the affected students and uncommit where appropriate under your assessment policy.

Completion and grades

Have all members review the work before committing or submitting. Students sign in individually to see their released grades. Signing out from the group session signs out all members.

Review group activity

Use Group Activity in student progress or on the completion or report page where available. Check the group history and compare it with the student's current work and completion status. Use observation, discussion, or individual reflection to assess contributions.

Add instructions to your lesson

Download reusable lesson instructions

Download the group work instructions template and import it into your Lt course. Use the group login opening and closing panels in your lesson, and adapt the submission instructions to your course.

Place the opening panel at the beginning of your lesson and the closing panel on the final activity page, before submission. The opening panel covers membership and selecting the intended work; the closing panel covers review, submission and signing out.

Suggested announcement

Your group will sign in together on one computer. Add the intended leader first, then have each student enter their own credentials. Check the names and selected work before starting or continuing. Review the responses together before submitting, and sign out before leaving the computer.
