In the 1970s, Cornell University engineer and scientist Cornelis Drost developed and patented the world's first transit-time ultrasound flowmeter for biomedical volume blood flow measurement. In 1983, Drost founded Transonic, bringing this technology to the world. Transit-time ultrasound quickly became the gold standard for volume flow measurements in research, medical devices, and surgical procedures, and has been cited in thousands of studies.
