When trying to update LabTutor Server from within the Admin Interface, why is the 'Update' button not visible?

In order to update LabTutor Server from within the Admin interface, you must have desktop access to the machine running LabTutor Server - the update button will not be shown if you are remote accessing the Server from a different machine (for example by typing the IP address into your URL bar in Internet Explorer). There are two ways of getting desktop access:

  • Physically go and log on to the machine that has LabTutor Server installed on it
  • Use a desktop sharing application (such as Citrix or Remote Desktop Connection) to gain remote access
You can then update by:
  • Log in to the Server Admin Pages
  • Go to 'Server', then 'Status'
  • Click 'Update'

Desktop sharing is also the only way for a virtual Server to be updated in this manner, as virtual machines don't have a physical location to log in to.
