System Requirements for Data Sampling in Lt

To record data in browser-based Lt, you need a compatible computer, supported hardware, the appropriate sampling software, and a lesson configured for that hardware. Viewing lessons and recording live data have different requirements.

Sampling platform limits: Data sampling in Lt is not currently supported on ChromeOS, Android, iPadOS, or iOS.

PowerLab acquisition units require KCDA on Windows for use with Lt. Lt Sampling does not replace KCDA for these units, and KCDA is not available for macOS. Check the PowerLab and sensor compatibility guide for your exact model.

Using Lt LabStation? Lt LabStation is a standalone Windows product with its own Data Service. It does not require a separate KCDA or Lt Sampling installation. The browser requirements below apply to browser-based Lt.

Check the installer before deployment. Requirements can differ by application and package format. The Lt Sampling Windows MSIX package requires Windows 10 version 1809 (build 17763) or later. This package minimum does not establish support for every Windows release or browser combination.

Earlier documentation listed Windows 8 and macOS 10.13 as minimum operating systems. These historical minimums should not be used alone to select computers for a new deployment. Confirm compatibility with the current installer and browser before installing across a teaching lab.

Browser requirements

Use the latest version of an Lt-supported browser. Google Chrome is recommended for sampling; the published sampling requirements also list Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge. Keep the operating system and browser compatible with one another.

When Chrome or Edge asks for permission to access applications on your device or your local network, allow the relevant permission for the site displaying your Lt lesson. Blocking this permission can prevent the browser from connecting to installed sampling software.

See Lt Support for browser local-device permission guidance and other sampling troubleshooting resources.

Lab configurations that are not supported

The following configurations are not supported for Lt sampling. These restrictions concern recording with local hardware; they do not mean that all Lt lesson viewing is incompatible with these environments.

Sampling deployment restrictions
ConfigurationWhat to consider
Virtual machinesHardware access and USB forwarding may not work reliably. Use a supported physical computer for sampling.
Thin clientsLocal sampling software and connected hardware require a supported workstation setup.
Reboot-to-restore or reimaging systems, such as Deep FreezeRestoring the computer can remove application updates, local settings, or required permissions. Review the setup with IT before deployment.
Enforced proxiesProxy rules can interfere with application connectivity or connections between Lt and the local sampling service. Review network requirements with IT.

Do not disable institutional security controls to work around a connection problem. Ask IT or ADInstruments Technical Support to review the configuration.

Install and verify before class

  1. Confirm the exact computer, operating system, hardware model, and lesson configuration.
  2. Install the appropriate sampling software and any required drivers using your institution’s approved method.
  3. Connect the hardware, open the intended sampling lesson, and allow any required browser permissions.
  4. Record a short test using a standard student account on the lab computer. Check the setup again after significant software or computer-image changes.

Use the Lt Sampling Application setup and downloads for sensors, or the KCDA setup and downloads for compatible PowerLab acquisition units.
