Webinar: Autonomic Function Assessment through Quantification of Resting Cardiovascular Variabilities

The synergy between academia and industry serves as a catalyst for advancing and innovating in the field of Medical Sciences. In line with this ethos, ADI has forged a strategic alliance with APPI to foster the advancement of Physiology, Pharmacology, and related disciplines. Among our initiatives is the APPI-ADI Application Webinars, designed to facilitate the exchange of scientific discoveries and foster career development.

We are pleased to extend an invitation to you for the inaugural webinar of the APPI-ADI Application Webinar Series, focusing on "Autonomic Function Assessment through Quantification of Resting Cardiovascular Variabilities". The webinar aims to explore the latest developments and practical applications of HRV and AFT across various domains.

Below are the details of the webinar:

Talk: Overview of Autonomic Function Evalution

Prof. K. K. Deepak, an accomplished figure in the medical sciences and space physiology, has left an indelible mark on his field. Until January 2022, he held prestigious positions such as Head of the Department of Physiology and Dean (Exams) at AIIMS, New Delhi. Currently serving as a Visiting Professor at the Center for Biomedical Engineering at IIT Delhi, his contributions span decades of active involvement in research and academia.

In the realm of medical sciences, Prof. Deepak is renowned as the "Father of Autonomic Physiology in India," having established India's first Autonomic Function Lab in 1989. He spearheaded the development and dissemination of Heart Rate Variability (HRV) technology across the country. Notably, his team devised an indigenous cloud-based system for centralized HRV monitoring.

In the field of space physiology, Prof. Deepak's work has been groundbreaking. He has explored human adaptation to microgravity, culminating in the patenting of a revolutionary "pro-gravity body gear" in 2016. This invention simulates gravity during microgravity exposure and has been successfully utilized in earth-based experiments. Additionally, he is a co-inventor in six other patents related to isometric exercise, human muscular fatigue recording, and other innovations in space physiology.

Prof. Deepak's expertise extends to human systems modeling, where his research promises to revolutionize our understanding of the human body. Through his mentorship of PhD theses and adjunct professorship roles, he has nurtured the next generation of researchers and innovators. His prolific output includes over 230 research papers, boasting an H-index of 36 and accumulating over 4900 citations, reflecting his significant impact on the scientific community.

Talk: Newer techniques in autonomic variability quantification, including Baroreflex Sensitivity (BRS) and Blood Pressure Variability (BPV)

Dr. Kiran Prakash is an excellent teacher and researcher, presently working as an Assistant Professor, at Government Medical College & Hospital, Chandigarh. Under the mentorship of Prof. KK Deepak and Prof. AK Jaryal, she has introduced a novel method for the assessment of cerebrovascular reactivity “Delta Cerebrovascular Conductance Index”. For her research works in autonomic and cardiovascular physiology she has been felicitated by “RC Shukla APPI Award” for her best research in Cardiovascular Physiology; “Young Scientist National Award in Physiology -2020” and “A.V. Tilak Parvathi Devi Prize”, for her work in Neuroendocrinology; and “Dev Raj Bajaj Research Prize” for developing new technique. She is also a recipient of “TR Raju APPI Award” and “Best Researcher Faculty 2023”. She has many national and international publications. Presently she is working on many projects funded by ICMR, SERB etc. She has also the life membership of many national and international academic bodies and has been invited speaker and resource person in many national and regional conferences.
