Yes, you can import data recorded in Spike2 into LabChart by first exporting it as a text file. Follow the steps below to correctly import your data.
Step 1: Export the Data File
First, export your data from the Spike2 software as a text file (.txt).
Please note: For importing a single channel, no file editing is necessary. If you want to import multiple channels, you must first export each channel from Spike2 individually. Then, use a program like Microsoft Excel to copy and paste the data columns from each file into a single sheet, side-by-side. Save this combined file as a new Text (Tab delimited) (*.txt) file.
Step 2: Import into LabChart
With your text file saved, you can now open it in LabChart.
-
Open the LabChart software.
-
Navigate to File > Open.
-
Locate and select the
.txtfile you saved and click Open.
Step 3: Configure Import Settings
LabChart will display an "Open Text File" dialog box.
Configuring these settings correctly is crucial for the data to display properly.
-
Times in first column: Ensure this box is unchecked. Spike2 text files do not include a time column; LabChart will create the correct time axis using the sampling rate you provide below.
-
Ignore non-numeric lines: Check this box. This will automatically skip any header text in the imported file.
-
Ignore regional options: This optional setting ensures the decimal point is read as a period (
.). You can typically leave this unchecked. -
Default sampling value: This is a critical setting. Set this value to match the original sampling rate of your Spike2 recording. For example, if your data was recorded at 20 kHz, you would enter
20000.
Step 4: View Your Data
Click OK. LabChart will process the file, and your Spike2 data will now be imported and displayed in Chart view.
