ADInstruments congratulates all participants and the winning team of the 10th Inter-Medical School Physiology Quiz

ADInstruments had the pleasure of sponsoring and attending the 2012 Inter-Medical School Physiology Quiz held on 29-30 August at the University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This wonderful event brings students from around the world to test their medical physiology knowledge.

The Winning Team
We would like to congratulate all the students that took part. In particular, congratulations go to the wining team from Chulalongkorn University of Thailand. Students from Mahidol University of Thailand placed second and University of Malaya, Malaysia came third. Well done to all the students and their teachers.

ADInstruments Educator Workshop
The IMSPQ is also a wonderful opportunity for educators from around the globe to come together, form professional ties and discuss their teaching experiences. This year’s event brought 90 physiology educators to the University of Malaya. During the first day of the competition, ADInstruments had the opportunity to discuss with the attending educators the latest trends in medical physiology education. Participants were able to take part in a hands-on physiology lab session where they used equipment and lab content utilized by leading universities around the world. LabTutor for Medicine was showcased and educators could put themselves in the students seat to experience interactive physiology labs that include real patient case studies.

History of the Inter-Medical School Physiology Quiz
The Inter-Medical School Physiology Quiz was launched by Professor Hwee Ming Cheng in 2003 at the University of Malaya, Faculty of Medicine. The quiz’s popularity and reputation have grown immensely since the inaugural event in 2003, which only saw 7 teams in competition. In 2012, the event’s tenth anniversary, the University of Malaya welcomed 346 medical students, representing 70 university teams and 17 countries.

The trophy for the event is named after Professor A. Raman (1936-1998), the first professor of physiology at the University of Malaya. A well respected and liked man, Professor Raman believed greatly in the importance of physiological basis of medical practice. Colleagues that worked with Professor Raman believe that he would have been overjoyed knowing that an event stimulating student interest in physiology is taking place at the University he loved so dearly.
