Radnoti Glass Cannulas for Radnoti High Tech Heart Chambers
Overview
Constructed of borosilicate glass, these cannulas are designed for easy insertion into the lid of the Radnoti High Tech Heart Chambers. They have a female Luer connection formed on a 4.0 mm O.D. glass tube, which then tapers down to a tip with an O.D. that ranges from 1.4 mm to 3.0 mm. The ends are slightly flared and etched to provide a no slip connection to the aorta or pulmonary vein without damaging the vessel wall. The design permits the cannula to be rotated or adjusted easily during mounting of the heart and then secured by tightening the cap enclosure surrounding the cannula. Depending on the tip size, these cannulas are suitable for most rat, rabbit, and guinea pig isolated heart preparations.
Note: A long narrow cannula will offer more resistance than a short cannula pulled down from a larger tube, especially in pressurized systems, such as the heart. However, a longer cannula may be easier to position than a shorter cannula. Additionally, small diameter cannulas are usually more fragile and must be considered expendable.
