Can SmartPads and tBases be placed on metal shelving?

We recommend the use of plastic shelving where possible. TR181 SmartPads and MT110 tBases generate an electromagnetic field which is present above and below the unit and provides power to rat and mouse telemeters, respectively. For this reason, it is important that SmartPads and tBases are NOT placed on a metal surface.

If using shelving that has metal supports or frames, we recommend there is at least 10cm clearance from any metal (including metal on the underside of shelves).

There should also be at least 10cm separation from a metal cage lid and any SmartPad or tBase above or below it.

Once set up, if the SmartPad or tBase show a solid red light then it is likely that they are too close to metal or to each other. Try moving them further away from any metal brackets, supports, cables or power packs and then disconnect and reconnect the power cable.
