This is a useful webinar for biology educators who are interested in streamlining their lab curriculum and engaging their students in active learning with authentic data acquisition.
Abstract:
Plant pigments offer an approachable way for college students to learn about the properties of light transmission and absorbance and the properties of chlorophyll.
Join us as we demonstrate how to use the Go Direct® SpectroVis® Plus Spectrophotometer to measure the visible absorbance spectra of plant pigments and food coloring.
We will explore how this experiment has been embedded in the Lt platform for online learning. Learn how you can easily build your biology curriculum, customize labs, grade answers, track student progress, and scaffold learning in Lt.

Key learning objectives:
- What is the Lt Biology Collection?
- DEMO: Recording live absorbance spectra using the Go Direct® SpectroVis® Plus Spectrophotometer
- What pedagogical principles were used in designing the Lt Biology Collection?
About the speakers:
Charlotte Steel
Education Specialist
ADInstruments
Previously an Instructional Designer on the Lt Content Team, Charlotte managed the development and release of the Lt Biology Collection. Her aim in developing the collection was to draw on core competencies for undergraduate biology students, Bloom’s taxonomy, and opportunities for exploring the nature of science.
John Melville, PhD
Director of Biology/Biology Staff Scientist
Vernier® Science Education
John, previously an Associate Professor of Biology, has over a decade of experience teaching at the university level. He taught majors and non-majors courses in biology and neuroscience, and has designed inquiry-based laboratory exercises and integrated data-collection technology in his courses.
Lt for Biology Education
The Lt Biology Collection is specifically designed for teaching undergraduate biology labs. Engage students in active learning with authentic data acquisition and guided inquiry extensions.
