Honoring Tony Macknight's legacy by supporting physiology education in Africa

Excellent and innovative physiology education was a lifelong passion of ADInstruments co-founder, Emeritus Professor Tony Macknight.

Tony's legacy lives on through the funds raised by his online resource for physiology education, Understand Your Physiology.

A proportion of the revenue generated by this resource has been dedicated to initiatives that support physiology education. The recipients of these funds are decided by our academic advisory panel, including Professor Emerita Dee Silverthorn, from Dell Medical School.

In 2023, ADInstruments has committed $2,500 USD to support the East African Society of Physiological Sciences (EASPS) and their inaugural EASPS conference in collaboration with the African Association of Physiological Sciences (AAPS).

We're also proud to provide a free physiological testing workshop at the conference which will explain how to measure and interpret ECG, EEG, and spirometry data using PowerLab hardware.

The East African Society of Physiological Sciences (EASPS)

The EASPS promotes the advancement of knowledge and research in the areas of physiology. Their first conference, held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, from November 29 to December 1 2023, will bring together researchers from across Africa to discuss best practices in research and education. Importantly, the EASPS are exploring the prospect of a regional physiology curriculum. We look forward to seeing the outcomes of this groundbreaking event.
