Group Sharing

The Group Sharing Workflow simplifies collaboration by eliminating the need for all group members to log in simultaneously. Instead, only the Group Leader (one student from the group) accesses the lesson using Single Sign-On (SSO) or an LTi Lesson link in the LMS.

This streamlined process enhances efficiency and reduces setup time, allowing students to focus on their collaborative work.

  • Initiating Group Work:
    • The Group Leader begins by entering the lesson and selecting "Start Lesson."
    • A popup will appear, allowing them to add group members by entering email addresses.
  • Updating Group Members:
    • The Group Leader can share their work with additional students or remove students from the group during the session by clicking the "Share" button in the top-right corner of the window.
  • Session-Specific Sharing:
    • Work shared during the session is specific to that session. For example:
      • If the Group Leader starts a second session without adding students from the first, those students will only have access to the work shared in the initial session.
    • Students must log in and accept the shared work for it to count.
  • Visual Indicators:
    • Group members will see a red dot next to their lesson, indicating that work has been shared with them.

A blue circle marks lessons that have work shared for them.

  • Why Acceptance Matters:
    • Students must access the lesson and accept shared work to:
      • Receive credit for group tasks.
      • Be included in the group work.
  • Flexible Acceptance:
    • Shared work can be accepted anytime, provided:
      • The lesson hasn’t been committed.
      • The availability window hasn’t expired.
  • What If Acceptance Is Missed?:
    • Instructors can grant extensions to:
      • Allow students to accept shared work.
  • Safeguards Against Errors:
    • Students must actively access the lesson to preview and accept shared work.
    • This prevents accidental overwriting of individual work.

  1. Preview Options:
    • Students can preview shared work and decide to:
      • Accept the work: Take ownership and continue working.
      • Decline the work: Proceed independently.
  2. Handling Multiple Groups:
    • If work has been shared by multiple groups, students can:
      • Use the "Preview Group Work" feature to view all shared versions.
      • See details of who shared the work and when.
  3. Key Benefits:
    • Once accepted, the student gains control of the shared work and becomes eligible for grading.
    • Identical answers across group members can be collectively graded, streamlining evaluation.

IMPORTANT:

Work must be accepted before it can be graded. Unaccepted shared work remains inaccessible for grading.

A popup allows students to choose between work that has been shared with them, showing who shared it and when.

  • Understanding Commitment:
    • A committed lesson (by the instructor or student):
      • Prevents further edits.
      • Locks the ability to accept group work.
  • Handling Errors:
    • If a Group Leader forgets to share work, they can access the lesson again and share work.
    • If a student fails to accept shared work, an extension allows them to accept and receive grades.

  • Lab Locked by Instructor:
    • Students must request an extension to unlock the lab and accept shared work.
  • Session-Specific Work:
    • Work shared in one session isn’t automatically available in subsequent sessions unless shared again by the Group Leader.
    • Work shared will be the Group Leaders version of data and all completed questions for the lesson shared.
  • Unaccepted Work:
    • Students who fail to accept shared work will not be included in the group and will not receive grading for the group work.

The Group Activity Log displays:
  • A history of all shared work.
  • Details of who shared or accepted work and when.
